Pining for Pastels

I has an email drop into my inbox this morning from Gap and it made me pine after the pastels that I really can’t wear.

Gorgeous peaches, pinks and blues, they really do nothing for my skin tone unfortunately. However I do try and wear them on my bottom half to get my fix. (How amazing are those floral Oxford shoes though?!)

Its lucky that SS14 this year has other colours that I can lust over. More on that later this week.

Are you a pastel fan?

Confident in Colour

For my blog posts in November, I’m going to taking a lead from Dean Street Society’s #EncourageBeauty Instagram challenge for the month.

As Hilary writes in her post about the challenge for the month, “we have the power to make people around us, friends or strangers, feel more beautiful for who they are both on the outside and the inside, with our words”.

Whilst today’s post is about my love of all things colourful, I appreciate others who don’t follow the “norms” as well. I find injecting colour into everyday not only makes me feel happy, but confident too.

It’s rare that I will not wear any sort of colour, and if I have a pretty basic outfit on I like to pep it up with shoes or jewellery, or bright lipstick.

I have a pair of green jacquard “trophy” trousers which when I wore them provoked a gent to say “fantastic green trousers”. I’ll always remember that now when I wear them!

Of course, the icon that is Jenna Lyons is the Queen of this and I’ve not been afraid of waxing lyrical about her style before. I’m hugely looking forward to the Regent Street store opening later this month and even though I may not be recreating exactly the looks that J Crew offer, a browse under the roof will most certainly provide inspiration.

How does colour make you feel? Even if its a bright lip today, try something new. Odds-on it will make you feel happy.

Welcome to Emerald City

SS13 is peppered with bright, jewel coloured tones which I’m absolutely over the moon about. From Fuchsia to Cobalt Blue, they shine through the main trend colour that is white, making them really come alive.

I’m glad because my skin tone is not good with pastels. After having my colours done as part of a Wedding prep experience with a friend a few years ago, my dark hair, eyes and olive skin suit jewels, pure white and pure black. Although I do wear pastels carefully, most wash me out. SS12 was a nightmare.

This is where Emerald Green comes in, not least because its Pantone’s 2013 colour of the year.

My love for green has only just begun and I think its down to a hang up passed on to me from my Mum who loathes it. Emerald Green is so calming, yet so stunning… especially when paired against black, or white for this summer as I’ll be doing.

The image above (thanks to ShopBop) made me consider this fabulous colour more. Here’s a roundup of what’s out there that I’m loving in Emerald…

I bought a dress from Per Una last year and I’m glad I’ll be able to get to style it again for this summer.

Will you be wearing green for SS13? Emerald or more Minty?
