2013… Bring it on!

Happy New Year

So here we are, it’s New Years Eve. How did that happen?

I’ve said this before countless times to friends, family, colleagues, everyone, but really, where has this year gone? 2012 for me has been one of, if not THE best year I think I’ve personally had, with the cherry on the cake arriving on July 1st – halfway through. Nothing prepares you for the all-encompassing emotion and love you feel becoming a Mother, and I feel very privileged to be able to have done just that. I also relish in the fact that our son was born in the year of the Dragon, and a Water-Dragon at that. Too many hopes for his little shoulders perhaps, but we know he’s our lucky little man without the Chinese Horoscopes.

I do maintain though that 2012 has finished in the blink of an eye. Perhaps the fastest year that has gone in my memory. With that in mind, could 2013 be any better?

At this point, I’m thinking about a film I saw recently with a very good friend of mine. A year too late granted, but part of the film has remained with me. The film in question? New Year’s Eve (very apt). Without giving too much away for those who have not seen it, this passage really touched me (if you haven’t seen this film, you must!):

“…before we pop the champagne and celebrate the New Year, stop and reflect on the year that has gone by. Remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken. The times we opened ourselves up to great adventures or closed ourself down for fear of getting hurt. Cause that’s what New Year’s is all about, getting another chance. The chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more. And stop worrying about what if and start embracing what will be. So when that ball drops at midnight, let’s remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other. And not just tonight, but all year long…”

I’ve altered it slightly, but the gist remains. 2013 for me will be continuing with great adventures, now as a family of three; to do better, at home, work, in whatever I, and we three do; to try and do more – especially important for me as I return to work – individually and as a family; to give more, to give back; and to love more – if that’s at all possible. My Husband and Son are my world, as are my Family and Friends.

I hope that 2013 will be a brilliant year for you all. Remember, it’s about being kind to each other – do that, and the rest will just happen. Here’s to a healthy, happy, successful one.

Happy New Year!
